Why Soy Wax?

Every candle starts with its wax. Unlike paraffin (a petroleum byproduct), soy wax is made from soybeans, a renewable, biodegradable crop grown primarily in the U.S. The beans are harvested, cleaned, and pressed into oil. That oil is then refined and hydrogenated into a solid wax that burns cleanly and evenly.

Our candles are scented only with pure essential oils, not synthetic fragrance. These oils are the concentrated essence of plants, capturing their natural aroma and character. Each one comes from a careful process that transforms raw botanicals into the drops that go into your candle.

How Essential Oils Are Made

Cold Pressing – Citrus oils like orange, lemon, and grapefruit are often made this way. The rind of the fruit is pressed to release aromatic oils without using heat, preserving their bright, fresh character.

Steam Distillation – Many flowers, leaves, and woods (like lavender, eucalyptus, and cedarwood) are distilled by passing steam through the plant material. The steam lifts out the aromatic compounds, which are then cooled and separated into pure oil.

Resins and Woods – Some deeper scents like frankincense or sandalwood come from tapping resins or carefully distilling heartwood, giving them their rich, grounding quality.

How It All Began

Trev’s Candle Co. started with a question: What is the smallest, simplest thing I could build that I would be proud of?

In business school, I dreamed of wild, ambitious projects like floating hotels and neon disco-techs. They were exciting, but impossible to launch on a student budget. One of my professors challenged me to scale things back. Start with a minimum viable product, they said. Something real. Something I could actually make.

I thought about what I loved, what I would be excited to create and stand behind. The answer turned out to be candles.

Not just any candles. I wanted something that filled a room, burned for hours, and did not rely on synthetic shortcuts. Clean, simple, made with care, something I would actually want in my home.

It began with a few supplies, plenty of trial and error, and a small workspace in my laundry room. Since then, the process has slowly evolved. Each batch taught me something new, and each supporter gave me a reason to keep going. What started as a handful of jars has grown into steady, thoughtful progress. Each candle is a little more refined with every pour, yet still rooted in the same small-batch, hands-on spirit that shaped the very first one.

Every candle begins with 100% natural soy wax, with no paraffin or chemical fillers. Just clean, plant-based wax that burns evenly and slowly. Soy requires patience and care, but that is part of what makes the result so rewarding.

The scents come only from pure essential oils, carefully blended to capture something real. When you smell lavender, it is true lavender from the flower. When you light sandalwood, it is distilled from real wood, not something made in a lab. That authenticity is what gives each candle its depth and presence.

Every candle I make is hand-poured in batches of two or fewer. It is a small setup tucked into my laundry room, and I would not have it any other way. The process itself is what I love most: the pour, the scent testing, the adjustments, and the quiet satisfaction of getting it right.
